What is DKIM?
DKIM and Deliverability
Does Implementing DKIM Improve My Sender Reputation?
Why You Should Use DKIM
DKIM (along with SPF) is an essential email authentication protocol that should be implemented by any businesses or brands sending marketing and transactional email. Not only does using DKIM authentication improve your chances of hitting the inbox, it helps protect your brand and secure your email.
How Does DKIM Work?
What is a DKIM Record
DKIM authentication is based in public/private key pair cryptography. Sometimes the public portion placed into DNS for a given DKIM key pair is referred to as a DKIM record. There is no single central DNS location for DKIM public key records as their location in DNS is determined by a selector variable.
What is DKIM Alignment
Simply put, DKIM alignment happens when the domain of the DKIM signature matches the domain in the from address. So if an email service like SocketLabs signs all of their messages with a DKIM signature, alignment does not happen until the brand sending the messages signs them with their own domain.
What is a Domain Key
DKIM works using a key pair. One of the keys is public and one of the keys is private. The public key is published in the DNS and the private key is configured in the mail server. To understand how these keys work watch this video about the history and the technology at play behind public key cryptography.

Today we’re going to talk a little about the benefits of DMARC. What is DMARC? DMARC is an email technology that is really cool. It’s essentially an email authentication protocol that is designed to give email domain owners the ability to protect their domain from unauthorized use. DMARC email authentication is really valuable to companies […]
Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is one of the primary means of authenticating email messages as they transit the Internet. The importance of SPF is growing as additional technologies, such as DMARC, are built on top of the standard. As more domains implement SPF records, greater value is derived from the framework for anti-spam systems and mailbox […]
